New Media, PhotoArt, Paintings and Installations

*1952 Eitorf/Sieg, Germany

The parental home in a rural area presented the opportunity to actively experience the possibilities and special characteristics of materials and tools right from the beginning.

Art lessons at secondary school generally ended up as “ashtray performances” in a café. Three years of photographic afternoon seminars at school had a lasting effect on the interest in art.

Technical possibilities developed during later professional training in the field of electronics. Consequently there were phases during which electronic music synthesizers were built, experiments carried out with self-made optics and macro photography. Self-developed stroboscope equipment led to high-speed sequential photographs of drops of water and moving objects.

The rather chance rediscovery of water-colours and coloured pencils resulted in a series of miniatures. A continuous period of creativity followed a prolonged artistic break due to the demands of work. This began with pencil, chalk and charcoal drawings. Work produced in one’s own potter’s workshop and animated cartoon films tended to be a digression in order to find one’s bearings.

In 1986 an airbrush studio came into being where the first serious works of art originated. Glass, wooden and metal sculptures followed. Three-dimensional pictures using plastics, tempera colours and oil paints could be traced back to elementary techniques such as plaster casts. The simplicity of the objects and the beauty of that which is transient found expression in works of art made of rusty articles which had been found and remained as a subject.

Since 2001 the viewfinder of the digital camera has often found the special view of the trivial from a photographically and artistically active aspect. In addition to social documentary photography interest is principally directed towards angles of vision and moods which remain hidden to the ordinary observer.

Since 2004 performing art shows and lyric perfomances as Artist Couple artcoon together with the wooden sculptor Sirpa Masalin. 2005 Goller-Masalin starts his artwork with 3D computer animation software for videos and stills. A first interactive video „Paperdings“ is presented in 2006 at the Helsinki Hall of Culture. The video reacts on noise of the visitors and changes it's course of action.
